Welcome to 2019! It is the time of year again when we all make resolutions for the new year and after feeling sluggish from the chocolate oranges for breakfast, I bet most of you are planning the usual diet and exercise resolution. If you walk in to any retail store, you will find that anything they stock relating to this will be in your face at the front door, so at least you won’t be alone.
However, it is also a fact that we all break our resolutions within the first week! So why do we make the same ones every year just to break them? Maybe because we need to make some new ones!
Now, I’m not a fan of making weight or fitness part of my resolutions for exactly this reason, I know I will fail because I set myself a ridiculous task on some extreme detox that I end up hating, then when I give up I feel that guilty feeling of failure.
Here are some of my realistic resolutions!
1. Read more books
You probably have a book in mind you’ve been meaning to read for a while now so take the time and do it, a book just before bed is one of the best ways to relax and prepare for a good nights sleep!
2. Spend less time on phone apps
Now part of my job is to spend time on social media, but for most people Facebook and twitter can take up hours of the day! If you are on your phone why not check in and text some friends?
3. Try new recipes eg. vegetarian/vegan
Trying a new meal can add a nice change to your week and if you are looking at vegan or vegetarian it’s a great way to eat more of your daily veg and less calories. Bonus!
4. Shop less and save more
Do I need this new handbag?….probably not!!!
5. Try a new hobby/activity
Always wanted to try horse riding? Rock climbing? Painting? Well why not try it now, at least once, it may be something you enjoy long term.
6. Add more fruits and veg in to your daily routine
Just make better choices rather than always looking for a quick option and prepare ahead where you can, to make it easy on yourself.
7. Drink more water!
Pretty self explanatory! Timer bottles to keep you on track are available almost everywhere, these are a great aid if you (like me) tend to just forget!
8. Set a weekly budget
A great one to stop you spending on things you don’t need and helping you save!
9. Spend more time outside
Fresh air is good for all of us and a nice walk after being at work all day can have you feeling relaxed and ready for a calm sit down dinner and your daily step count will be in reach!
10. Call friends and family more
I love this one! I like the idea of taking 10 minutes out of my day to call loved ones and check in, it really means the world to people to that you care.
So this year I’ve scrapped the diet idea and have chosen realistic goals in all areas of my life so I can swap the guilt for feeling great!
Good luck everyone! Here’s hoping for a very happy 2019!!
