Horse racing season is now upon us and the desire to stand out amongst the crowds grows more every year! So, I am here to tell you what people are wearing and how you can perfect your own look. With the Grand National kicking off racing season for the local tracks, let’s look at the trends from Aintree.
By order of the Peaky Blinders
Of course this trend was going to be seen on the tracks as the Peaky Blinders have been such a hit, and with the race days attracting the Shelby’s in the show they’ve of course been inspiring our racing fashion, and men flooded the stands with suits and accessories Thomas Shelby would be proud of. Three piece suits, tie pins and and of course flat caps were definitely the trend of the day and if this look is something you want to re create, I don’t blame you. Flat peak caps and tie pins are easy accessories to pick up – just be sure to make sure your shirt has tie pin holes. Now the three piece suit, if your race day is further in to summer then go for a lighter fabric or colour, to stop you melting away! Checks can still be worn in summer in lighter shades like pale grey, or navy with pale blues. If you think navy could be too dark, mix it up by changing your trousers to a lighter chino and make your blazer a statement.
Don’t be afraid of colour!
Don’t shy away from brighter colours, they can really make a look ‘pop’! It also helps change up your reliable suit and gives you a different look. Colour can be added in the form of a shirt, tie or pocket square, but not all together! Keep it classic by adding colour in your accessories or your shirt. Here are some we think are perfect…
When in doubt, add print
Prints can be used in the same way as colour. In either your shirt or accessories and if brighter colours are not for you, a subtle print might be better. If your suit is plain in colour and doesn’t have a check or pinstripe, a printed shirt will give it a lift, which can then be paired with more plain accessories. Alternatively, a printed tie and matching pocket square will make a plain suit and shirt more on trend.
Keep your eyes peeled for ladies day looks which we will be reporting on soon!
