The school summer holidays have been upon us once more and its getting more and more popular to look for holidays closer to home than abroad, probably because the cost of holidays during the summer breaks are getting more and more expensive! However, all is not lost because we have so many amazing places to visit a car or train ride away! So before the holidays end and all of the kids go back to school I have compiled a list of the top staycation destinations that you still have time to visit!
The top staycation destination this year is Cornwall, a classic destination that has been popular with tourists for many years, probably because they have some of he best beaches in the UK where you can surf and enjoy other outdoor activities. You’ll also have time to enjoy all the famous foods Cornwall have to offer, such as Cornish pasties, cream teas, and ice cream!
Following closely behind is the Peak District, definitely a choice for those of you who love all sorts of outdoor activities with amazing views to take in. Located in northern Derbyshire, you’ll find plenty of rambling trails, great places to hike, cycle or camp, and you’re sure to feel a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of towns and cities! There are loads of things to entertain the kids as well. The Go Ape centre has climbing courses perfect for active kids, cable car rides, or a visit to Chatsworth House, home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, or Bolsover Castle, a gorgeous 12th century castle in Derbyshire.
Another popular destination is the Scottish Highlands which are known for their unbelievable views filled with natural history and vast wildlife. Scotland is filled with amazing places to go, making it a perfect holiday destination, with loads of historical sites, national parks and welcoming towns and villages you won’t be bored here. If you don’t want to venture to far from a city, Inverness may be for you, with a historical castle to visit and plenty of shopping until you drop!
