Best Christmas Films

Posted: Dec 14 2016

I really hope with 2 weeks left until the big day you're all well and truly in the Christmas spirit. If not the quickest way to get anyone in the Christmas mood is a classic Christmas film. So many out there to choose you should find something suited exactly to your household. Not sure which one to watch first, here’s a summary of each to make it easier! Here’s my top 5…

No 1. The Muppets Christmas Carol (1992)

There is a perfectly good reason this film is my number one and that’s simply because its my favourite!  I’m 25 now and it’s been my favourite since I was a child and its tradition to put the tree up with this on in the background. It has classic Muppet humour, amazing songs you cant resist singing and dancing to and a Christmas message to warm your soul. Not to mention the amazingness that is Michael Caine! What’s not to love?

No 2.  The Santa Clause Trilogy  (1994, 2002, 2006)

I couldn’t list these films separately because they are all really good. Tim Allen is a superb Santa he could almost be the real deal. Not to mention the amazing sets that make you want to move to the north pole tomorrow! Each one of these films are great in their own right and deserve to be watched in running order this Christmas. Who doesn’t love a Christmas film binge? Bring on the cheese boards!

No 3. It’s a Wonderful Life (1946)

If you haven’t watched this film what rock have you been living under? A small town man contemplates suicide when his life isn’t going how he planned; he has put others before himself all his life and is frustrated he has never travelled the world as he wanted, but standing on the bridge ready to jump, his guardian angel opens his eyes to a world in which he would never have existed. This is so heartwarming and will make you all gooey inside, and with this film guys, its OK to have a little cry!

No. 4  Dr Seuss, How the Grinch stole Christmas (2000)

My favourite Jim Carrey performance ever! Based on the infamous book by beloved author Dr Seuss, the reclusive Grinch (below) forms a plan to ruin Christmas for the overly cheery residents of Whoville by stealing all their presents, until he meets the very sweet Miss Cindy Lou Who.

This film is a laugh a minute and a one the whole family will love, with a great Christmas message.

“Maybe Christmas, the Grinch thought, doesn't come from a store.”

No. 5 Elf (2003)

Arguably one of the funniest Christmas film out there, 'Elf' is a heart warming tale of Buddy, a human raised among elves who travels to New York in search of his long lost father. Buddy loves EVERYTHING about Christmas - he can't help it he was raised at the North Pole! But when he finds his dad Walter, he couldn't be any more opposite! Buddy then decides he has to help Walter and his family find the joy and spirit of Christmas with hilarious results!!
